A New Contemporary Prairie Craftsman Home in Burlington, MA

This Contemporary Prairie Craftsman home blends the strong horizontal lines and deep overhangs of Prairie School architecture with the crisp detailing of modern design, using sloping rooflines, asymmetrical forms, and carefully placed windows to create a sculptural exterior supported by warm materials and grounded proportions. Designed by Preston Design Inc., the four thousand square foot residence is tailored for a growing family with an open concept layout that connects the main living spaces and encourages daily interaction, while the signature roof design reinforces both the visual identity and the energy performance of the home through enhanced insulation and natural shading. Budget adjustments required smaller windows, the removal of trim, and the elimination of a planned brick exterior, yet the home still retains its character and contemporary elegance, resulting in a refined and efficient modern residence that balances aesthetics, functionality, and thoughtful design.
